Emmet Smith's Journey to Broadway
Emmet Smith, a 26-year-old from Washington Heights, is making his Broadway debut as Albus Potter in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. With previous experience from the national tour of the same show, he has also performed in off-Broadway productions like Philadelphia, Here I Come! and A Midsummer Night?s Dream. Growing up in a theatrical family, with a father as a Broadway music director and a mother as a former stage manager, Smith was immersed in the arts from a young age.
Despite his diverse interests, which included aspirations of becoming a baseball player and a jazz drummer, his passion for theater remained strong. He describes his role in Cursed Child as musical-like due to its dynamic elements. Now on Broadway, Smith cherishes performing alongside friends from the tour and welcomes the presence of Tom Felton, who reprises his role as Draco Malfoy. Reflecting on the show's themes of grief and love, Smith feels grateful to return to his roots in New York, surrounded by family and friends.
